As popular as tattoos are nowadays, records show that a huge percentage, as much as a quarter, of all people who get tattoos eventually seek to have them erased. This can be due to one reason or another which has essentially caused a thriving of tattoo removal centers across the country. As technology gets better, the processes involved in erasing the ink are also getting more innovative. These range from laser treatment to simple crèmes and lotions which are known to penetrate the upper skin layer and dissolve the ink. While it is generally accepted now that it is possible to erase a tattoo, one question that comes up frequently is if the procedure can be performed free of charge. The truth is; yes. We will get to that.

There are numerous reasons surrounding why someone would suddenly decide to erase their beloved tattoo but we will concentrate on the major ones. One major reason is employment and the location of the tattoo. Many people get tattoos when they are still in school and usually in their teens. Later on in life they may want to get a job and maybe the tattoo is on their face, or neck. While many jobs are now becoming more tolerant towards tattoos, the corporate world is still more or less very conservative and it frowns at certain tattoos especially if they are clearly visible. So many would-be job applicants are flocking to tattoo removal centers to erase their tattoos.

Another reason is where the tattoo message no longer coincides with the person’s lifestyle. This can be because of a radical change such as change of faith or embracing a different ideology that is totally different from the message being propagated by the current tattoo.

People also erase tattoos simply because they have outgrown them. Remember we mentioned that many people get tattoos when they are young and later on they realize that the tattoo simply does not compliment their current lifestyle or beliefs and want it removed.

There are different methods and techniques in the market today for erasing tattoos. Some of them are quite simply, like the use of lotions and crèmes which are readily available in most major retail outlets. Then there are other more high tech techniques and procedures such as laser treatment which are becoming ever so popular. Today, the predominant thoughts when seeking to remove a tattoo are, whether the procedure will leave any scarring and what the overall cost is.

Laser is becoming increasingly popular but scarring can occur. There are two types of scarring caused by either the type of laser procedure used, the type of skin one has and where the tattoo is located. One type is hyperpigmentation, which refers to where there is simply too much skin color and this is common among people with darker skins. It’s more common in laser tat removal on darker skin types. In some severe cases one might need to consult with a dermatologist. Then there is hypopigmentation which affects people who lack a lot of natural skin color.
